5 Days in Marrakesh Itinerary

5 Days in Marrakesh Itinerary

By Joba,

Without a doubt, Marrakesh is one of those destinations that perfectly combines relaxation, culture, food & adventure. I spent 5 Days in Marrakesh celebrating my friend’s 30th birthday, and we had the most amazing time. If you don’t believe me, see for yourself here. From beautiful gardens and waterfalls to cultural experiences with still enough time for rest and relaxation, you are bound to have the time of your life.

While I personally don’t recommend Marrakesh for a solo trip (especially as a woman), this itinerary is ideal for group tripscouples and families, who want to experience the best of Marrakesh, Morocco.

Day 1: Arrival & Architecture

We landed at Ménara International Airport, Marrakesh (RAK), and booked an airport transfer here.

Everyone arrived at different times, so we kept things light after settling into the accommodation.

Historic sites like Ben Youssef Madrasa, Bahia Palace and El Badi Palace are good for the first day, and are a great introduction to Marrakesh’s architecture. They are gorgeous photo spots in Marrakesh too.

We had dinner at M.bacha, a Moroccan-Asian fusion restaurant with the best shrimp summer rolls I’ve ever tasted.

Day 2: Choose-Your-Own-Adventure Day

Everyone had the option to pick what we wanted based on their energy level.

Option A: Book a full day shared tour to Ourika Waterfalls, Atlas Mountains

Option B: Take a traditional Moroccan cooking class for an interactive and meaningful way to experience the culture.

Day 3: Gardens, Museums & Local Evenings

Started the morning slow, taking in the sights and sounds of a Moroccan sunrise. Enjoyed breakfast at our accommodation, then, spent the other half of the day exploring one of Marrakesh’s most beautiful neighborhoods to experience Yves Saint Laurent Museum and Pierre Bergé Museum of Berber Arts

We accidentally booked the wrong tickets, so unfortunately couldn’t get into Jardin Majorelle, so I recommend booking a combined ticket in advance as they sell out quickly and there are no on-site ticket sales.

Later in the evening, we visited the Souk for some spice, ceramics, and souvenir shopping
and the Old Medina for a beautiful sunset dinner at DarDar Rooftop.

  • Family tip: Visit the Souk in the early hours of the evening before it gets too busy.

Day 4: Hot Air Balloons in the Desert

We booked a sunrise hot air balloon ride for a peaceful and unforgettable morning viewing the Atlas Mountains.

Then went camel riding and quad biking in Agafay Desert. This was one of the highlights of my Marrakesh trips. The shared tour included a ride to and from, a Moroccan dinner and a fire show.

Day 5: R & R, Final Dinner

When in Morocco, you have to get some kind of traditional Hammam spa experience. Whether it’s a steam bath, body scrub or a full massage, trust me, you will not regret it. I got a Hammam scrub, and I have truly never felt cleaner. Most riads offer this experience as an add-on, all you need to do is ask. The experience included the ever-wonderful tea and some traditional baked goodies.

We end our trip with a special dinner at Nouba Restaurant. The food? 10/10. Entertainment? 10/10, Service? 10/10. This was truly the perfect way to wrap up our time in Marrakesh.

Essential Travel Tips for Your Marrakesh Trip

Best Time to Visit Marrakesh

Marrakesh is known for its sub-tropical weather, with mild winters and very hot summers, so the best times to visit Morocco are between March to May, and October to November to avoid extreme weather.

What to Pack for 5 Days in Marrakesh

Marrakesh’s tropical climate generally works for light, breathable clothing like linen or cotton outfits, along with comfortable walking shoes. Morocco is a predominantly Islamic country, so be respectful of cultural practices and err more on the modest side for dressing. Need a full packing guide? Where to Stay in Marrakesh: Top Neighborhoods and Accommodation Tips

There are plenty of accommodation options, but I personally recommend staying in a riad, which is a beautiful traditional Moroccan house or palace that has been transformed into a boutique guesthouse, mostly centrally located.

Currency and Payment Tips for Your Marrakesh Trip

The official currencies are the Moroccan Dirhams and Euro, but cash is King. You can exchange money or withdraw cash easily in the Old Medina. Credit cards are accepted in some establishments, but always have loose cash handy for souks, small buys, tips and emergencies.

How to Get Around Marrakesh Easily

Download the ‘Careem’ app for ground transportation (taxis).

Essential Moroccan Phrases for Travelers

It’s always nice to keep a few local phrases in your back pocket when you’re in a new place. Moroccan Arabic words like salam alaykum (hello), shukran (thank you) and la shukran (no thank you) are a great start.

Final Thoughts

Marrakesh is a vibrant city full of color and culture, but the key to enjoying it is not trying to do everything. Slow down. Choose experiences that feel right for you, and that way, you will find your Perfect Paths through the city.

Safe travels,

Joba
