Dreaming of Traveling More? Start Here
By Joba,
I’ve just returned from my first solo trip in seven years! While I’ve stayed on the move over the years, this experience felt like stepping into the shoes of a new traveler all over again. Let’s just say, I’ve been out of the ‘game’ long enough to feel a little hesitant and overwhelmed. That said, I had an amazing time and can’t wait to do it again soon. Getting started is easier than it seems. Here’s what’s been working for me — and what might help you too.
Table of Contents

1.) Define Your Why
Ask yourself: Why exactly do I want to travel? This doesn’t have to be some deep, groundbreaking answer. You might be craving better work-life balance, dreaming of visiting a world wonder, or just wanting to taste your favorite dish in its place of origin. Like me, could even be a mix of all of these, or more. Well, whatever your reason, it is the right one—as long as it’s meaningful to you.
2.) Dream Big, Start Small
Whether you’re planning a group trip or going solo, I’d recommend starting with nearby destinations or weekend getaways as a newbie. Keeping the trip short & simple means less stress and fewer logistics to manage. Plus, the proximity to home can act as a comforting “safety net”. Regardless of the distance, make sure to still target a place that suits your interests, budget, and lifestyle. The goal is to ease into travel without feeling overwhelmed or taking the fun out of it!
3.) Create & Work with a Budget
4.) Plan Like a Pro
5.) Pack Light & Smart
The last thing you want is to lug around more bags than you need, under-pack, or arrive at your destination only to realize you packed for the wrong weather. Even worse? Forgetting essentials like your toothbrush, phone charger, or passport! Packing smart is the key to a stress-free start to your trip, and it can even help reduce your environmental impact. To keep you organized and prepared, I’ve put together a Travel Packing Checklist. It covers all the basics so you can feel confident and ready for a smooth, stress-free adventure.
6.) Just Do It!
With these smart safety tips, you can explore with confidence, knowing you’re prepared for anything. So go ahead—book that ticket, chase that adventure, and have the time of your life!
Book that flight. Get in your car. Or hop on that train. Just. Do. It. Travel is—quite literally—a journey, not a race, so it’s okay to take it one step at a time.
So, where are you headed next? Drop me a message and maybe I’ll share a destination-specific tip or two!

Safe travels
