7 Beach Bag Essentials for Your Next Tropical Getaway (That are easy to forget!)
By Joba, February
Tropical vacations are amazing, but the sun, heat, and humidity can take a toll if you’re not prepared. We already know to pack swimwear, lightweight clothes, flip-flops, and even sunscreen, but is that really everything you need? I’ve very kindly put together this list of important yet oh-so easy to forget beach bag essentials to keep you comfortable, protected, and looking fabulous while you soak up the sun.
Table of Contents
1.) SPF Lip Balm
Your lips need protection too! Between the sun, saltwater, and wind, they can dry out fast, and sunburned lips? Not cute. Thankfully, lots of brands now offer lip balms with SPF, so you can keep your lips soft and sun-safe all day. My go-to is L’Occitane’s Shea Butter Lip Balm SPF 30—super moisturizing and doesn’t leave a weird taste behind. Trust me, your lips will thank you.
2.) Moisturizing Lotion
Sun exposure, seawater, and sand can leave your skin feeling parched and tight. A good hydrating lotion is your best friend after long beach days. Look for one with aloe vera or coconut oil for extra nourishment. Pro tip: Apply it right after showering to lock in moisture and keep your skin glowing!
3.) Face Sunscreen (Don’t Forget to Reapply!)
Yes, you packed sunscreen, but are you actually reapplying every two hours? A good face sunscreen isn’t just about avoiding burns—it helps prevent premature aging, dark spots, and sun damage. Tropical destinations can get super hot & humid, so a lightweight, non-greasy sunscreen is your best bet. I always reach for the Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Watery Sun Gel—it’s hydrating, absorbs quickly, and is the perfect size to carry everywhere. Lather up, reapply, and thank me later!
4.) Sunglasses
The tropical sun is no joke! Protect your eyes from harmful UV rays with a pair of polarized sunglasses. Plus, let’s be real, they instantly level up your beach look. Functional and fashionable? Say less!
5.) Bug Repellent
Tropical = bugs. And some of them are relentless. Take it from me – nothing ruins a relaxing time by the beach faster than itchy mosquito bites. A good mosquito repellent is a must, especially if you’re heading somewhere humid. I personally love OFF! Deep Woods Dry Spray—it works and doesn’t leave that sticky feeling on your skin.
6.) Hat or Visor
Want to keep your face cool and protected AND take your style up a notch? A wide-brim hat or visor is a lifesaver. Not only does it shield your face from the harsh sun, but it also keeps your scalp from getting burnt—because believe it or not, that could happen too!
7.) A Beach Tote
Where else were you planning to put all these essentials? A cute, lightweight beach tote keeps everything organized so you can focus on enjoying paradise without losing any of your stuff. Look for one that’s water-resistant so your items stay dry, even if you get a little too close to the waves.
Now you’re officially ready for your next tropical adventure! 🌴☀️
What’s the one thing you always pack that others forget? I’d love to know!

Safe travels
