Whether you’re a foodie, history geek, adventure seeker, or city explorer, Panama City offers something for everyone. This 5-day Panama City itinerary will help you experience the best things to do, top restaurants, and must-visit attractions, plus a few extra recommendations if you want to customize your trip!

I planned this itinerary based on my interests, but I’ve also included extra activities for those who want even more adventure. There’s so much to see, eat, and do in Panama City, and the fact that I couldn’t fit it all into five days just gives me the perfect excuse to go back! So take what works for you, explore at your own pace, and most importantly, have a great time!

Day 1: Arrival & Exploring Casco Viejo
Arrive Panama City, check into your hotel, then get some rest.
Start your adventure with a leisurely walk through Casco Viejo, the city’s historic district. Enjoy a cozy seafood dinner at La Pulperia, a hidden gem with an intimate ambiance.
Optional: Stop by a local supermarket to stock up on snacks and drinks for your stay.

Day 2: Brunch, Chocolate, & Walking Tour
Start the day with brunch at the iconic American Trade Hotel, enjoying the stunning setting and great food – make sure to reserve ahead of time.
Take a Chocolate-Making Class at Nomé Chocolate, where you’ll learn about Panamanian cacao, taste some, and make your own handcrafted treat.
Try a cold street drink from one of the mobile kiosks, or a berry popsicle from Gelarti to cool off while you wander through colorful streets of Casco Viejo, admiring the colonial architecture, and soaking in the lively atmosphere. You can choose to book a guided tour or explore solo.
Nazca 21 restaurant is a must-visit for seafood lovers. This Peruvian restaurant in Casco Viejo is a perfect spot for dinner after such a busy day.

Day 3: Panama Canal & Amador Causeway
Start your day with breakfast at Café Sucre, where you can try the world-famous Geisha coffee!
Then, Visit the Panama Canal, one of the greatest engineering marvels in the world. You’ll learn about its history and impact and watch massive cargo ships pass through. Tours typically last 4-5 hours.
Make a quick photo stop at the colorful Panama sign at Amador Causeway, and enjoy the ocean breeze before finding your way over for dinner & live entertainment at Sabroso, a tourist favorite with great food, a DJ and live music daily from 8pm.

Day 4: Island Hopping in San Blas

Day 5: Wildlife or a Chill Day
Option 1: Monkey Island Tour – Explore the Panamanian rainforest and cruise along Gatun Lake to see capuchin, howler, and tamarin monkeys up close.
Option 2: Relax & Explore Casually – Sleep in, wander the city at your own pace, and soak in the last bits of your time in Panama City.
Try out lunch at a local Fonda. These small eateries serve authentic Panamanian dishes at budget-friendly prices. Then, select any option from here for dinner.

Panama has a tropical climate, meaning it’s warm year-round. The best time to visit is during the dry season (December to April) to avoid heavy rains.
